Diversion Program
The Diversion Program is a partnership between Gavin Foundation, Area C-6 Boston Police and the Boston Juvenile Court.
Area C-6 Police Officers forward an application for complaint to the Clerk Magistrate of the Boston Juvenile Court who has the option of either issuing the complaint or placing the offender in the Diversion Program. Also parents can refer their child who may be experencing substance use. There is no charge to the participants of the program.
Diversion Program clients are required to participate in a minimum of eight one hour sessions. In addition to substance abuse issues these sessions focus on violence prevention, goal setting, health issues and linkage to community resources.
Court ordered Client’s attendance will be reported to the Clerk Magistrate weekly and noncompliant clients will be referred back to the court. Upon request attendace reports will be given to parents. The program offers gender specific treatment.

With the exception of primary care and some vocational/educational support, all of the above services will be provided by our staff on site. In addition to these services, clients will have the opportunity to participate in other activities supporting their recovery from substances. They include recreational, cultural and community support services.
The program offers two tracks, track one provides clients with structured classes (substance abuse education 101) in conjunction with case management and community support services
Track two clients receive two indvidual Motivation Enhancement Therapy sessions and four Cognitive Behavioral Therapy group sessions. Upon completion of these sessions the client's parents or guardians are invited to participate in the wrap up session.
