The Gavin House, the "pilot" residence established by the foundation in 1963 was founded by James F. Gavin a resident of South Boston who had spent 28 years working in the field of corrections.
The Gavin House is a 4 - 6 month treatment program in a safe and sober home-like environment for 31 men seeking to recover from the effects of alcohol and other drug abuse. The purpose of all Gavin House programs is the restoration of dignity and self-respect for each resident in an understanding, supportive, and home-like environment designed to promote the development of mature and responsible lifestyles free of alcohol and other drugs.
IN-HOUSE GROUPS:
Intensive Substance Abuse Phase Program:
The Phase groups consist of 8 residents each and meet on Wednesday Nights at 5:50 in assigned rooms. It is moderated by a staff counselor. As the resident progresses in treatment he will move from group #1 (newer Residents) thru to group #4 (residents ready to graduate). Each phase covers a specific stage of recovery.
Four on One Group & Individual Counseling:
This group of four residents will meet on Monday and Night at 6:30 p.m. in assigned counseling rooms for one hour, for the duration of their stay at Cushing House. It is moderated by a Staff Counselor, the focus being on the needs of the four individuals in the group. On Thursday between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. your assigned counselor will meet with you one on one for at least 30 minutes. There is always an opportunity to see the counselor on an individual, by appointment, basis. Gavin House has an open door policy for all our residents. There is a staff member available to residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
AAWOL: (Alcoholics Anonymous Way Of Life)
This meets every Tuesday Night at 7:30 at the Tynan School. Residents will remain in the same group for the duration of their stay at Gavin House. This group meets for 1 and 1/2 hours and is an in-dept study and application of the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.
