About Ostiguy High

Action for Boston Community Development. Inc (ABCD) in collaboration with the Cushing House residential treatment center operated by the Gavin Foundation and the Boston Public Schools, proudly announced the opening of William J. Ostiguy High School in September 2006. The mission of Ostiguy High is to provide a safe, sober and supportive school enviorment in which youth in recovery can develop the skills and strengths needed for personal, academic, vocational and community success. Funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Ostiguy High opens at the end of October2006, initially accepting 10 students and expanding to 50 students over the academic school year.

Admission


Students can be referred by schools, parents, courts/state agencies, drug and alcohol treatment agencies, other community based youth programs, and residential programs. William J. Ostiguy High School will concentrate on serving students from the greater Boston area, but will accept reform across eastern Massachusetts. Referrals must be supported local school district and students must interview with the Ostiguy High team prior to admission. The final decision for students acceptance resides with the Ostiguy High principal.Students must be sober upon admission, committed to an individual plan of recovery and along with their parents, must be willing to sign am accountability contract. Students will also be subjected to random drug/alcohol testing.

Administration

William J. Ostiguy High School is a program of ABCD and is located at 19 temple place near the downtown crossing area of Boston with easy access to Park Street Station and the MBTA Red, Green, Orange and Silver lines as well as several bus lines. The school principal is Roger Oser, experienced educator and counselor with at-risk youth, who reports to Mark Isenburg, longtime ABCD vice president oF Workforce Development. The William J. Ostiguy High School Advisory Board will offer support and assistance to the high school in developing community partnerships and other matters.

Programs


William J. Ostiguy High School integrates a high school academic curriculum with the development of supportive life skills necessary for students in recovery. all program staff will be certified educators and specialists who will be responsible for providing appropriate academic programming and oversight both in and out of school.


William J. Ostiguy High School aligns with Massachusetts state standards, MCAS testing protocols, and the course requirements of referring school districts to provide students with a comprehensive education. The teachers will be recruited and hired in collaboration with Boston Public Schools.

The Cushing House/Gavin Foundation will provide a full-time certified drug and alcohol counselor who will work with the rest of the staff to create and maintain a recovery culture. As a result of the collaboration with the Cushing House. Gavin Foundation, William J. Ostiguy High School will be able to provide clinical groups and access to the other treatment options at the 19 Temple Place school site.
