On May 11th, Creative Office Pavilion will host a Road to Recovery Gala at the Innovation and Design Building to benefit the Gavin Foundation. The event features former Boston Celtic player Chris Herren who will share his inspirational story about his personal Road to Recovery. The evening also includes a silent and live auction, delicious food stations, and a special 2017 Gavin Foundation Honoree. Boston Marathon Runners for Recovery

“The older (wiser) I get the more I realize that there are very few things I need in life. I have more than enough so I should work hard at helping others who need a little bit more. Sometimes it’s just a smile, a few kind words, maybe a hug. Other times it is more and I have to find the strength deep, down inside me to get it done. Why run the Boston Marathon, and raise money for The Gavin Foundation, for a third time? I ask myself that question a lot and I always end up with the same answer. Because there are addicts struggling, and mothers and fathers paralyzed with fear and pain, and if I can help ease any of that, even just a little, then I should. I can so I should! I can so I will! In six short weeks I will be making my way to the finish line on Boylston Street and I will be thinking about all those who struggle as I push myself to the end. I won’t break any records, and many of the cheering crowds will be gone, but I will finish strong. I will finish for those who need a little bit of love and hope!”
“On April 17th I will be running in the 121st Boston Marathon for the Gavin Foundation in memory of my brother-in-law, Charles “Carlie” Jigarjian, who lost his battle to opiate addiction on July 28, 2006. In the ten plus years since his death, Carlie’s sisters, Karen, Brenda, and Darlene, have honored Carlie’s life by raising money for the Gavin Foundation to fight opiate addiction and to support recovery. Their fundraising started with Texas Hold ‘Em tournaments in the years right after Carlie’s passing. Karen, Brenda and Darlene formed “Carlie’s Angels” about six years ago and took to running the Tufts Health Care 10K in their brother’s name. Running for the Gavin Foundation, Brenda and Darlene completed the 119th and 120th Boston Marathons. Brenda and Darlene have generously passed the torch to me this year to run the 121st Boston Marathon. My goal is to continue to raise awareness and funds to combat the epidemic of opiate addiction facing our nation.”

Calling all swimmers to join us for this fun annual event to benefit the Charlestown Recovery House. Can’t swim? No worries, come by to cheer on the swimmers! There is no charge to participate or attend but donations gratefully accepted via the fundraising page. Join us for the swim followed by a celebration with food, fellowship and fun!

Alumni, family and friends are invited to participate in our annual Holiday Open House on Thursday, December 15th. Please join us at the McKeon Post for a bite to eat or a cup of AA coffee. There is no charge for this event; we would like to share the holiday with you and thank you for your support and kindness throughout the year.
Gifts are purchased for each resident and are distributed at the Christmas party by alumni and friends. This gives an opportunity to meet one-to-one with the residents and share time and fellowship, the best Christmas gift of all. Donations are requested to help cover the costs for the gifts for our residents in treatment at the Charlestown House, the Cushing House for teens, Gavin House, Gavin Graduate Center, and Hamilton House. Tech Gives Back
Tech Gives Back is a Day of Service held each fall that connects New England’s tech entrepreneurs with projects at local nonprofits. This wonderful program is offered by TUGG (Technology Underwriting Greater Good), a nonprofit who bring together Boston’s best entrepreneurs, VCs, and technologist to offer their time and talent as a community in order to help others. TUGG takes on the monumental task of coordinating over 1,500 volunteers at 50 nonprofits for this one day event. Area tech employees give over 9,000 hours of volunteer service in one day.
We were grateful to be a part of Tech Gives Back and thank the 50+ volunteers from Rapid 7 who helped out today at the Gavin Foundation programs; it was a terrific day! Read more about Tech Gives Back on their website and check out our Facebook page for photos of our volunteers in action.

Recovery Month Comedy Show
Please join us for a FREE Recovery Month Celebration on Friday, September 16, 2016, 6:30-9:30 pm at the IBEW Hall in Dorchester. The Gavin Foundation will present awards to Marylou Sudders, Massachusetts Secretary of Health and Human Services and Maryanne Frangules, Director of Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery (MOAR), followed by a Comedy Show with headliner Joe List and featuring Owen Bowness, Jessica Casciano and Anthony Costa. Resource tables will have representatives from area recovery groups and organizations.
DLO Golf Registration Now Open
Please join us in honoring Jack Leary and John Dorsey by participating in the 10th Annual Dorsey-Leary Open on Friday, September 9, 2016. All proceeds from the DLO golf tournament will be donated to The Cushing House and the William J. Ostiguy Recovery High School. Open Hearts Open Homes June 30th
Please join us for our Open Hearts Open Homes Benefit on Thursday, June 30, 2016. The event will feature a reception that includes a live and silent auction, followed by individual dinner parties hosted by our celebrity hosts. Proceeds will be used to help support our residential programs and services and our efforts to help others to achieve and maintain sobriety.
The festivities start at 5:30 pm at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel with our Open Hearts Reception where guests can whet their appetite with delicious hors d’oeuvres. There will be outstanding items at our Live and Silent Auctions including spectacular trips, tickets and one of a kind experiences. At 7:30 pm guests who have chosen to extend their evening for an Open Homes Dinner will head out to one of our hosts fabulous homes or restaurants for a unique dining experience.
Congressman Stephen Lynch will be honored as our “Man of the Year” for his incredible work on behalf of the Gavin Foundation and the entire recovery community. To honor the spirit of Gavin House founders James and Mary Gavin, the Caring Hearts Award will be presented to the leadership and members of Sprinkler Fitters and Apprentices Local Union 550. The members have been tremendous supporters of the Gavin Foundation and we are thrilled to be able to acknowledge their kindness.
